What upright is best for my storage application? When you are selecting an upright frame, the depth should be 6” less then the depth of your pallet, to allow for pallet stability. It is the beams that support the weight of the pallet, not the decking. .
How high of an upright should I use? The height of your uprights will be dependent on a couple of different things. One being, the height capabilities of your forklift. If your forklift is only capable of going up 12’ then you would want to stay below 12’. Another determination would be, how high your individual pallets are stacked. The top of your load, not the top of your rack, needs to be at least 18” below your warehouse sprinklers.
What length beams should I use? The standard beam length is an 8 foot, and is designed specifically to hold two standard size pallets, weighing up to 2500 pounds each. If you have pallets that are considerably lighter than you can use 12’ beams, this lessening the amount of uprights you need, which could be a significant savings.
